Healthwatch can refer people for NHS Volunteer Responders support

NHS Volunteer Responders can provide support to people who need to shield because they are at higher risk of serious medical complications from COVID-19.

Until now, only health and care professionals and local authorities have been able to refer people who they consider need this service but who may not been one of the 1.5 million people to have received a shielding letter.

Following discussions with NHS England, local Healthwatch services can now also refer people who they believe are vulnerable or are at higher risk.

Priority will be given to those identified as most at risk from COVID-19 and asked to self-isolate at home for an extended period, and to those who health practitioners and local authorities consider to be vulnerable.

If you are somebody, or know of somebody, who might need this service, please call free on 08000 520 029 or fill out a contact us form.

The volunteer initiative is being delivered by NHS England and NHS Improvement in partnership with Royal Voluntary Service and enabled by the GoodSam Responders app. For more information please click here.
