Healthwatch joins the Campaign to End Loneliness
People across the UK are recognising the serious impact loneliness can have on our health. There is increasing evidence that loneliness can increase the pressure on a wide range of council and health services. With more and more older people living alone, we need to think about how public services and local community organisations can help.
What is Healthwatch Devon doing?
We have joined forces with the national Campaign to End Loneliness to raise awareness of loneliness in Devon. We ran a workshop where over 50 participants looked at how we can reduce loneliness and create connections in later life. It was clear that there was a strong desire to take action on this issue.
- We are running a simple survey, along with more in-depth focus groups, to gather people’s experiences of social isolation and loneliness.
- We are working with Public Health Devon to provide information to feed into the county’s Health and Wellbeing strategy.
- We are exploring opportunities to work with churches across Devon to reach isolated people in rural areas.
How can I get involved?
The more information we can gather locally, the more informed we can be. We want to hear examples from people who have experienced loneliness or isolation. It could be your own personal experience or someone you know.
Help us to tackle loneliness.
Our feedback boxes will be appearing in GP practices, Citizens Advice offices, Libraries and other community venues. If you see one, please pick up a pen and share your thoughts with us.
If you would like to display a feedback box in your venue please contact Caroline Lee, Partnerships Officer on email@example.com.
Or you can share your story with us in our online survey. All comments will be treated as strictly confidential, and you can respond anonymously if you want.
FEEDBACK BOX: If you have received one of our feedback boxes for your venue, please watch our short instructional film on how to assemble it https://youtu.be/k0-3BhS5JS4.
